When your annual holiday is on the horizon, your suitcases are packed, and flight details are printed out and filed away, it’s easy to put your houses needs to the back of your mind. After all, your holiday is a treat, and you don’t want to add any stress to the experience.
But the truth is, you’ll be coming back to a lot more work than you’d like to if you don’t get your house sorted out before you jet off. The absolute last thing you want to be doing is pulling nasty, gone-off food out of the fridge when you should be basking in your holiday afterglow and relaxing.
The solution to a stress-free entry back into ‘real life’ after a fantastic holiday is to get your house in order before you leave. Follow our pre-holiday checklist, and you’ll thank us when you’re back.
Your home is vulnerable when you aren’t in it, especially when you’ve been away for a while and there’s been no movement in and around your property. Inactivity is a signal to burglars that your house and belongings are ripe for the picking, and burglaries skyrocket during the summer whilst people are on holiday[i].
Don’t panic, though, there is a lot you can do to prevent unwelcome visitors.
Your kitchen is the worst place to leave in a state before you go away. That half-drunken brew you’ve ditched next to the sink might seem harmless before you fly off to Spain, but you’ll regret your choices when you come back to a new species growing out of it two weeks later. Get your marigolds on and get cracking.
If you know you’re a sleepy traveller, the first thing you’ll want to do when you get home is collapse into bed. So, it makes sense to get your bedroom ready for a 5* sleeping experience.
When you get home, you’ll probably be desperate to wash off the grime from your travels. Make it easier on yourself by prepping your bathroom for a pampering session.
Going on holiday requires a certain level of ‘life admin’, tedious tasks that nobody really wants to do, but you really should do. Get on top of it sooner rather than later.
It seems like there’s a lot to do before you go on holiday, but getting everything in order will make your life much easier when you get home. With everything cleaned and organised, you can turn on holiday mode, relax and enjoy your well-earned break.
